With the release of NX 50, the Affino Messenger made its grand entrance to replace our previous chat and conference elements. To utilise the Messenger, you will need to add a Messenger Profile and Event Gateway. Please refer to the Affino Messenger Help Guide for more information. The Messenger Profile Reference Guide has also been provided to assist you in setup. Another guide, Understanding the Affino Messenger Interface, will help you acquaint yourself with the Messenger’s display functionalities.

If you have any questions or comments about setting up or using Affino Messenger, please post to the support forums.

Emojo in Camden - a few days after the move Most of Emojo have been in Camden for a week now; some of my colleagues and I only came to the new premises last Friday. After some extended weekend maneouvres, I am finally getting my bearings on our new environs.

Our Wilkin Street premises are just along from the top end of the Talacre Community Sport Centre and Gardens - which is a park really as there is very little evidence of flowers. Just to the South are the Kentish Town Baths, which are currently being refurbished to the tune of £25 million - set to re-open in 2010. A little further South lie Camden’s Markets - the Stables Market is less than five minutes walk away from Emojo, with the Lock Market alongside to the East; in the intersection between the two markets you will find the amazing looking Gilgamesh Restaurant.

Just to the North of Emojo on Willes Street sits the florally resplendent George IV pub (Emojo’s local) - which has excellent exterior and interior, but food and beverages not quite up to the same level. A touch to the East is Kentish Town Road with its myriad restaurants, including one of the best looking Pizza Express, a decent Nando’s and several great gastro pubs - The Oxford, Annies and The Abbey amongst them.

Camden is famous for a number of music venues - Koko at the foot of the High Street, The Electric Ballroom at the top end, The Roundhouse on Chalk Farm Road, then the famous Jazz Cafe on Parkway, and of course Dingwalls in the Market; a little North of Emojo is the Kentish Town Forum on Highgate Road. Camden provides plenty of diversity, you need but pass by the Hobgoblin pub and Bar M to see opposing rock aficionados - metalheads and punks - glaring at each other across the road - the goths are a little less in evidence of late, but representatives of most musical tribes can be seen in and around Camden most of the time (particularly at night).

There’s no proper salad bar in Camden, nor are the record shops on par with Soho / Oxford Street - there are just as many restaurant options though, and none of the snooty attitude you find in the West End. All in all we are more than happy with the move, the new premises are infinitely superior to the Regent Street office, and we love our new environment. Camden life is quite different to the West End - there’s a lot less showiness, but so much more ... Emojo in Camden - a few days after the move

Affino Update - Transition Well Under Way We’re in a transition process with Affino as well as Emojo. Since we knew we were going to have connectivity issues whilst moving office we decided to focus on rolling out two major projects which could be done in isolation: Groups and Tests. These are major new areas of Affino and whilst Groups is going to be part of eCommunity, Tests will be an entirely new Social Learning platform running on Affino.

Affino NX

The roll out of Affino NX 50 went very smoothly. There have been a small number of issues which has arisen, but the number is tiny compared to the size of the release, which is great all round. Now that we’ve settled down in Camden we’ve started to plough through these issues and will have most of them resolved over the next couple of days. We’ll wait a bit longer before rolling out a further NX point release so that we can know for certain that there won’t be many more left.

Affino 5

Almost everyone is now working on getting Affino 5 released in mid July. It’s a very tight timeframe, especially for a completely new version. We’re benefitting from the new capabilities of ColdFusion 8 which is allowing for faster development of a number of core elements. We’ve also been able to strip out a lot of legacy code which should mean that Affino will run faster.

Super Navigation Bar

A key new development in Affino 5, beside the upgraded look on the Control side is the new Super Navigator Bar :o), this is Affino’s equivalent to the new ‘Super Bar’ in Firefox as it will make it very easy to find anything on the Control side. We’re taking the current navigation bar, incorporating the Navigator and Tree, making it all fully dynamic and real-time, and adding in some nice kinetic scrolling. The end result is that it should make the process of getting to the right control screen much faster.

Groups

This has been a much requested enhancement for communities. Groups to handle dozens of different scenarios ranging from intranets to classes, entrepreneurial and social media based groups. Groups have the ‘standard’ functionality of members, wall, message board and media as well as tests / surveys (part of Tests). We’ve put in ma... Affino Update - Transition Well Under Way

Emojo now in New Office - 3 Wilkin Street, Camden We’ve finally started to settle down in our new office in Camden. We’ve got the phone lines and net connection so that the whole team is together again for the first time in three weeks.

It’s been quite tough to move the whole company twice in two weeks, but it was worth it since our new office is an ideal space, almost three times larger than the Regent Street office and five minutes from cool Camden. We have plenty of space to grow into over the coming years as the space is almost three times larger than our previous office, with three large rooms, presentation room, reception, server room, toilets and even our own gated courtyard.

The company who were here before left the place in something of a state and it’s taking a fair amount of effort to get the place looking its best, but it’s coming along nicely and things should look pretty good by this time next week.

Camden has really improved and the Camden Lock market is no longer just cheap and cheesy stalls but has become something like a modern bazaar, fantastic. There’s quite a lot of regeneration and we’ve got some nice neighbours that I’m sure we’ll get to know much better over the coming months.

It will take us till Tuesday / Wednesday next week to be settled down in a routine and for everyone to be working here. We’ve moved in the development, technical and project teams already and the sales, marketing and creative teams have just moved in today (now that we have the network up).

We apologise for the disruption and slower response we’ve been able to offer over the past couple of weeks, being entirely net based makes things quite difficult when there’s disruption with the network, and we’ve learned that the mobile network is not there yet when it comes to reliability and performance.

You can see the video below which shows the office in the raw state but gives you a good idea of the potential. Emojo now in New Office - 3 Wilkin Street, Camden
