The soft launch of Affino 5 has gone very well. There have been minor issues with some of the new elements but on the whole using Affino 5 is a big step up from NX. It is remarkably easy to accomplish many tasks in a number of seconds which used to take minutes. It is also easy to do things like grab video frames for thumbnails which simply weren’t possible previously. The new look has a surprisingly big impact on a day-to-day basis; it is simply more enjoyable to work with a better looking interface. We have quite a lot of team members on holiday over the summer period (including myself) so rather than work on a number of big projects and have the disruption as people come and go, we’ve decided to focus on smaller projects and feature requests for the coming weeks as well as one major project: SEO. We have had hundreds of feature requests over the past year and have done a number of them on an ongoing basis, although these have mostly been related to the new functionality we’ve been rolling out. We’re now focusing more on the core features and interfaces and updates which will make many elements work in a more elegant fashion and will have a real impact on productivity on a day-to-day basis. We’ve invested the majority of our resources this past year in making sure all the new social elements in Affino work well and are effective at running major commercial communities. With the advent of Groups we’ve reached a milestone in terms of meeting our original aims for communities, although we have evolved our aims considerably over the past few years and there’s a lot more that we will be doing on the social side over the coming year. We have been getting quite a lot of push to focus more on traditional web editing functionality in Affino recently. This has been a concern in particular for Affino site owners which haven’t gone social yet and as a result haven’t been benefiting from many of the enhancements that have been made to Affino over the past couple of years. What we will be doing more in the coming months is focusing on the core management experience as well. The new Super Navigator Bar, Control Centre and Media Editor are the first steps in what’s going to be a major overhaul of key management functionality. One up-coming example is a great new eBusiness Dashboard which will pr...

In the recent circa 18-24 hour period some of the Affino sites have suffered a marked slowdown in performance. We identified persistent attempts to inject actionable scripts into Affino / SQL databases. Fortunately, both Affino and our hosting centre have robust security wards to prevent any such cross-site scripting - so the scripts were unsuccessful in breaching Affino or Microsoft SQL Server instances.
Less fortunately though, these malicious attacks did have an effect in taking up a signficant part of the database resources - which is what led to the slowdown.
We’ve had our A team on the case, and have issued a hot fix to neutralise these attacks and to prevent them from happening again. All relevant Emojo-hosted servers have been patched and managers of external Affino sites most at risk have been forwarded the fix. If you still harbour concerns, please feel free to contact your account manager at your earliest convenience.
